Official Launch of Mdinght Walk

On Thursday 4 March at an event at Grove House hospice, attended by supporters, previous walkers and local businesses the fundraising team officially launched the fourth annual Midnight Walk in aid of the St Albans based hospice which will take place on Saturday 26 June.

Paul Parrish Fundraising Director for the hospice announced that the actor Joe McGann, famous for his role as Charlie Burrows in the sitcom The Upper Hand, would be starting the 2010 walk and will be walking alongside his wife Tamzin who teaches yoga classes in St Albans.

During the evening people were given a sneak preview of the first ever Midnight Walk dance by locally based Popdance. The Popdance team have created a short dance to the appropriately named title ‘Here come the girls’ which walkers will be encouraged to join in with as they cross the starting line.

Paul Parrish Fundraising Director for Grove House Hospice said, “The Midnight Walk is my favourite fundraising event of the year. Every year the sight of 100’s of women all dressed for the occasion, walking in solidarity for a cause that is so obviously close to their hearts brings a lump to the throat. More importantly the women (and last year men in skirts) have raised in total over £250,000 over the past four years for the hospice.”

LOOKING pretty in pink - and that was just the fundraising director - the team from Grove House beat its own record in this year's St Albans pancake race.

For the first time the Grove House team got through the first round - but sadly went no further.

The team was dressed in pink for a reason - to promote this year's Midnight Walk.

Paul Parrish, Kathryn Boal and Charlotte Fletcher from the hospice and Jane Thompson from Cerco Communications joined forces in a concerted effort to win the race this year.

Fundraising director Paul said: "Our training programme this year was somewhat disrupted by the appalling weather over the last few weeks!

"But seriously this is a fun community event for St Albans and gives us the chance to raise awareness of Grove House in the community and to promote our Midnight Walk on June 26."

Jane added: "We are very pleased to be working with Grove House again this year to promote the Midnight Walk which is now becoming a landmark community event raising thousands of pounds for the hospice."

And Kathryn added: "We will be back next year to win but in the meantime we will be signing up as many local ladies as possible to make our Midnight Walk the most successful yet!"
